Climbs

Stage 5

Jaunay-Marigny Futuroscope > Guéret

At the start of this long stage in Jaunay-Marigny, the riders will pass the HQ of the FDJ-Suez team, which, thanks to the support of Futuroscope, is celebrating 20 years in the women’s peloton. At Chauvigny, a stage town in the 2020 Tour, they will pass through Place Raymond-Poulidor. Continuing on minor roads and through Dun-le-Palestel, the riders will reach the Maupuy climb (2.8 km at 5.4%), before heading into Guéret for the finish on a rising false flat.

Stage 6

Clermont-Ferrand > Ambert

The stage, which starts in the huge Place de Jaude in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand, will be run entirely in the department of Puy-de-Dôme. Beginning on fairly flat roads, it will head to Courpière, where things will get serious. The ascent of the Col du Béal (10.2km at 5.6%) will be quickly followed by those of the Col de Chansert (6.3km at 5.5%) and the Côte de Valcivières. Running through a wild landscape of volcanic rock, there will be no respite at all on the road to Ambert.

Stage 7

Bourg-en-Bresse > Chambéry

From the magnificent monastery at Brou, the race will start on flat roads on the edge of the Dombes and the Ain plain. The riders will skim past the Glandieu waterfall before finding their pace checked by the Saint-Franc climb. After passing through Les Échelles and the Guiers Vif gorges, they will head for the Col du Granier (8.9km at 5.4%). The dive into the finish, located in front of the Chambéry Savoie Stadium, is likely to be fast and technical.

Stage 8

Chambéry > Col de la Madeleine

There will be no respite on what’s the Queen Stage of the 2025 edition. It will head into the Bauges massif straight away, with the first major difficulty coming on the way out of Chambéry in the form of the Col de Plainpalais (13.2km at 6.3%). After crossing the less demanding Col du Frêne, the race will reach the Maurienne and tackle the toughest flank of the Madeleine. Extending to 18.6km, with regular changes in gradient (averaging 8.1%) and a rough surface, this climb will provide plenty of opportunities to create gaps.

Stage 9

Praz-sur-Arly > Châtel

This “100% Haute-Savoie” finale offers a good opportunity for those riders who are behind in the standings to try to turn things around. The action will begin on the Côte d’Arâches-la-Frasse (6.2km at 7.1%) and continue, of course, on the Joux Plane (11.6km at 8.5%) and then on the Col du Corbier (5.9km at 8.5%). The climb towards the finish, at Pré la Joux, is steep as it passes through Châtel on the leg-breaking Route de la Bechigne.

Stage 4

Saumur > Poitiers

Starting at the National Equestrian School, the route will follow the Loire and then the Vienne, taking in some marvellous sights, including the châteaux at Montsoreau, Chinon and Richelieu, the town built by the eponymous cardinal. Heading south towards Poitiers, the final five kilometres of this stage will be identical to the finale in the 2020 Tour, which concluded with a bunch sprint at the end of a long false flat.
